The evolution of banking under the clearing house and national banking systems: Philadelphia, a case study, 1850-1913.

This paper discusses the evolution of banking in the United States from mid nineteeth century to early twentieth century. Using Philadelphia Clearing House Association for a case study, this paper described the banking and currency chaos in the country ahd the effort by the government, involving both executive and legislative branchs, to solve the problem.
